Here in the land of The Peryls we have a very loose understanding of the phrase 'up-to-date news', this being our first entry since January, but we hope you'll forgive our tardiness as we can now present to you an enormous and deliciously matured backlog... and anyway, if once every 4 months was good enough for Great-Grandfather, then it's good enough for us.
Our time has been spent promoting our debut EP 'By Medicine Life May Be Prolonged' with gigs all over London and the reaction has been very positive so far. We'd like to pay special thanks to everyone who came to see us perform over the past few months; without your excellent support we'd probably just give up and shoot ourselves like Great-Grandfather did.
We now have a healthy crop of gigs lined up for June, which we would love to see you at.
Reviews
Along the way we've managed to pick up a couple of great notices in the press. Mary B, reviewing for SoundsXP wrote:
"...simply captivating. The music is nothing short of wonderful with all manner of instruments being lovingly played. The lyrics are thought provoking and just tumble off the tongue... This is alt-folk at its folking best!"
While George Pacheco of Zero Tolerance magazine had these kind words:
"...Masterfully dark folk with a smart, sarcastic lyrical sensibility, The Peryls are on to something so fantastic here, I’m already dying to hear more. Shades of everything from Radiohead to Tom Waits abounds on this quick four tracker, yet The Peryls also have a sound all their own: something truly wonderful, special…and about to burst. Get on board now."
BBC Radio
We have been very pleased to hear tracks from our EP being picked up on several radio stations recently. New York based East Village Radio gave us a spin, as did We Take No Requests Radio. Over the bank holiday weekend we notched up another first - our debut on national radio!
On Saturday night a track from our debut EP was broadcast on 'BBC Introducing with Tom Robinson', a showcase of the 'best music from the digital world'. The show can still be heard through BBC's wondrous iPlayer which can be reached through the link above, where you are offered the chance to vote on your favourite act. Be generous, now...
Recording
Finally, as if we weren't busy enough, we have also been recording our second EP. We can reveal that the four tracker will be entitled '...Yet Death Will Seize the Doctor Too' and it is entering the mixing stage now - where careful finishing touches are made, magic dust gets sprinkled, and we get very angry with stupid slow computers.
You can expect to hear more delicately plucked guitars, layered harmonies and cellos... only this time with added drama and possibly even more doomed experiments. With our eyes on a mid-summer release date, somewhere in the distance you can just hear the clanking gears of The Peryls fantastical musical machine grinding into motion...
Remember, it's still not too late to get hold of a copy of our first EP!
'By Medicine Life May Be Prolonged' is still available in many good outlets including Rough Trade and on Indiestore.
Over the Christmas period, when most normal people are prancing around in a festive stupor and enjoying things like 'company' and 'parties' etc, the Peryls have been recording and rehearsing for our upcoming debut EP release and building our new website.
A vast, nay exhausting, repository of everything Peryls-related can be found here, including up-to-date news and tour dates as well as an option to join our mailing list.
If you want to listen to Peryls music, watch videos, or simply gasp in sheer loathing at heavily doctored images of our haggard corpora then you can do so for free here.
You might even dig out that crumpled 3-bob note you got for christmas and splash out on some (very) limited edition CDs of our soon-to-be-released EP via post. Thanks to our indiestore gadget, you can also purchase our songs as high quality MP3s if you like!
Watch this space for news about our debut EP "By Medicine Life May Be Prolonged..." and future tour dates. In the meantime, have a look around our website and enjoy!
